Ms. Newman has been performing extensively in the southeast both as a recitalist and orchestral harpist for many years and is currently Principal Harpist for the Huntsville Symphony. Last season she was featured soloist in a performance of Mozart’s “Concerto for Flute and Harp.”
She also plays regularly with the Alabama Symphony in Birmingham including their performances at the Kennedy Center. For years Ms. Newman was Principal Harpist for the Mobile Opera Orchestra and she has developed an extensive teaching studio in northern Alabama.
Ms. Newman divides her time between her southeast activities and performances in the Washington metropolitan area. For example, she performs with the St. Mary’s Orchestra in their summer series and the Alexandria Symphony on many occasions.
Ms. Newman earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in harp at Auburn University. As students Ms. Newman and Ms. Gregg performed together and, after years of following different pursuits, they reunited to create a harp duo. They jointly developed “Duo D’ Oro” to showcase the beauty of the harp to audiences of all ages.
